Alamos Red Blend, Mendoza
91 points by James Suckling
This robust, fruity Malbec-based Argentinian Red Blend wine features layers of bold and approachable flavor from the interplay of the native and international varieties featured in the red blend. The bled includes Alamos' juicy, incredibly aromatic and concentrated Malbec and its dense plum, juicy blackberry and black cherry flavors typical of Argentinian Malbec from the adventurous Mendoza winegrowing region. Uniquely, they add Bonarda to the red blend, a European variety that thrives in Argentina. Commonly known as Charbono in the United States, Bonarda adds intense color, dried fruit character and classic savory notes of leather and black olives. Cabernet Sauvignon adds rich berry and slight herbal notes, while intriguingly spicy black pepper and blueberry notes come from Syrah.
